Swords are thrusting or cutting weapons used for offense and defense in personal combats. A sword consists of a long metal blade with a sharp point and one or two cutting edges, placed in a hilt with a handle usually covered by a cross guard or a metal case.
It is believed that swords evolved from the dagger in the beginning of the Bronze Age. Roman and Greek swords were too short and had two cutting edges with pointed ends. Medieval knights used two types of swords – a heavy two-handed sword with a rounded end and a short sword with a pointed end. During this period, swords made by the Arabs in Toledo and Damascus were more popular because of the blades used; they were considered the best.
In the ancient days, swords were extensively used in the Middle East, East Asia, and Europe. The Persians and Arabs used a curved steel sword called scimitar. The Japanese samurai sword is considered the best of East Asian swords. The sword mainly features a curved single-edged tempered steel blade fixed in a long handle.
There are many stores that boast authentic replicas of the ancient weapons used by warriors and medieval knights. These stores cater to the needs of sword collectors as well as for those who are looking for an ornamental sword to hang on their walls. Ornamental swords are much cheaper as it can only be used to decorate your walls and an original/authentic sword would cost thousands of dollars in the market.
It is the duty of the customer to opt whether he needs an ornamental sword or an authentic sword. If you are planning to buy an original sword, do not forget to check for its quality and authenticity. Today, with online shopping, you can easily make a purchase from the convenience of your home or office, while comparing prices and other details of the piece you are purchasing.
