Workflow management is the process where the entire business is automated, controlled and managed. It is also called Workflow Computing or the Case Management. A set of procedural rules are used to move the documents, tasks and information in the workflow to perform various related actions. This process of automation of the business management is defined by a process definition. Workflow management is the function that manages and processes the life-cycles of various files and transactions.
The workflows are well defined, managed and executed in the workflow management system using the workflow software. The interpretation of the process definition and all the resources are invoked. The software has the entire logic of the workflow process. The instances of the process are then is created and managed. The workflow system then controls the various interactions within the resources.
Workflow management system provides the supervisory and administrative tasks that allow the reassigned work, the increase in the rate of work and managing the system information. Workflow management systems are generally used in the areas like insurance, banking or even any legal administrations. In some cases, the workflow management system is also been used in the industrial and manufacturing purposes.
The workflow manager performs various tasks like identifying the sender if needed, the input data format is determined, request definition entry, send a request the tasks in the request definition, updates the history files and request hold file and the process of reporting is done if any failures happens within the workflow system.
The high degree of specialization in the market allows software vendors to create products in any particular functional methodologies. This makes the factors of isolation and the incompatibility within various business automations, since the users pick the products accordingly to their own specific needs. There are certain standards that are carried out for the workflow management systems.
The workflow management system performs various significant tasks like the functional areas, the build-time function, the run-time control function and the run-time activity interactions which enhance the workflow processes. The Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) is a group of companies that are developed to define the standards that helps the workflow products to work together. The standards are used to improve the effectiveness in using the workflow.
