While selecting flowers seeds for gardens or for landscaping purposes, an increasing number of people are selecting wildflower varieties. Botanists and flower enthusiasts advocate against the usage of the term “wildflower”. Expressions such as “native”, “exotic” or “introduced species” are recommended to refer to flowers not logically occurring in an area. Other frequently used terms are invasive species and imported or naturalized varieties. These terms are used to refer to plants launched in an area much earlier and now considered as native to the location.
A wildflower is a type of flower that grows in uncultivated places, indicating that it was not seeded or planted by humans with a purpose. Taking this into consideration, it may seem strange that wildflower seeds of a few mixed species are being sold in seed packets.
If a seed packet is labeled only by its name and origin, it does not sound as enchanting as when it is referred to as “wildflower seed”. This label may refer to the fact that the plant in all probability is neither a hybrid nor a common native cultivation plant. However, the variety included in these seeds is eye-catching.
Selling wildflower seeds is a flourishing business. These seeds are ideal for crafting a wildflower meadow, creating one fairly simply and easily. One can select a seed mix that is best suited to the soil conditions where they will be planted. Seed varieties include tall or short flowers and some are for dry soils or clay soils. If cultivated correctly, these seeds will yield a brilliant, natural and low maintenance landscape.
While selecting wildflower seeds, one must be careful to read the label. One must be attentive in spotting the use of fluff, chaff and fillers in the seed mixes. Claims about usage of natural methods and inclusion of indigenous plant species only are widespread and need to be verified with a gardener or a botanist. If these simple factors are considered while buying wildflower seeds, it is possible to get hold of the right kind of seed mix and have amazing results.
