Once you have gained the respect of a bulldog, you can expect him to give you undying loyalty. These dogs also love attention and will thrive on it. They show their appreciation through affection that they will readily give you. These traits have made bulldogs a favorite breed for dog owners and have also endeared them to many people. However, these same traits make it very difficult for bulldog owners to accept the death of their pet. The level of grief can be compared to losing a family member and is sometimes very difficult to bear. The following are some tips on how to deal with the loss of such loyal creatures.
What to Expect
Losing a pet can be compared to losing a friend or a loved one. There are emotions that accompany the loss. One of the most obvious emotions is pain because of the loss of a companion, a family member, and a source of joy. You should, however, allow yourself to feel this pain. Another common feeling associated with the death of a pet is guilt because some pet owners blame themselves for the death. You may also feel a certain level of anger against the disease that killed your dog, the driver that ran over him, or even the veterinarian who tried to treat your dog. An extreme reaction is experiencing a certain level of depression. There are a number of support groups you can join to help you handle this kind of depression.
What Is Next?
After burying your dog, you may ask yourself a number of questions. Most likely, you may think about getting a new dog right away. Most people would tell you not to since they believe that they need time to grieve. The answer is always up to you. If you think you are ready for a new pet, then go ahead and get one.
When you lose a pet as loyal as a bulldog, you will really feel sad. What you can do to handle this pain is to let yourself go through the grieving process so that when it is done, you will be ready to enter into another loving relationship with your next pet.
