The rising incidence of obesity has sparked a bevy of activities from both scientific researchers and frauds alike who are in search of the most effective weight loss method. Hypnosis became one of the methods that weight watchers seriously consider.
Unfortunately, hypnosis is widely used by those who are looking for fast bucks – these people capitalize on other people’s ignorance about hypnosis and its mechanisms. A critical review of scientific literature reveals that claims of weight loss through hypnosis are overly optimistic at best, and fraudulent at worst.
People who are trying to sell videotapes, audiotapes, books and seminars make the materials available on the Internet about hypnosis as a weight loss method. Be very careful – many of the advertisers on the web would like you to believe that since hypnosis is a foolproof weight loss method, and that since it is natural, it can pose no harm.
It is best to be cautious of such claims. Remember that hypnosis can be a dangerous thing especially for those who are not aware of its workings. We need to approach hypnosis with a good dose of skepticism.
Some responsible advertisements state that hypnosis should be one part of a whole program of weight loss and emphasize that one hypnotic session cannot guarantee instant weight loss. The role hypnotherapy plays is just a supplement.
Let us consider hypnosis as an aid for weight loss, although nothing beats diet and exercise to shed more pounds.
