In the United States, nursing is one of the largest health care professions. There are more than 2.7 million registered nurses nationwide. In the United States, nursing students form a major part of all the health profession students. Generally, the cost of pursuing a nursing degree is phenomenally high. Many men and women aspiring for a nursing career are unable to pursue it due to a lack of financial support. Vocational nursing schools offer short-term courses that can be completed in less than a year and yet, maintain high teaching standards. In comparison to a regular nursing degree, vocational nursing courses are available at a lower fee structure.
Many affiliated colleges and universities provide vocational courses in a number of fields, nursing courses being one of them. They are termed vocational nursing schools since their teaching atmosphere is almost similar to a school. The professors in nursing schools offer personalized attention to each student and this plays an important role in grooming them as efficient nurses.
In the U.S, there are many colleges that offer vocational nursing courses and are located at important towns of each state. They offer the training required for students to excel in their chosen field. Vocational nursing courses also offer personal job placement assistance and financial aid to students in the form of scholarship, grants or loans.
There are many vocational nursing schools in the US that offer certificate courses for graduate nurses. There is a combined academic and clinical program, which prepares graduate nurses for the National Council Licensure Examination, which ensures a license for a vocational nurse. These nurses after completing the vocational nursing program provide care, such as detection of illness, rehabilitation and teaching patients during recovery.
After the successful completion of a vocational nursing course, nurses are eligible to pursue their careers in a hospital providing short or long-term care. They can also choose to provide healthcare in a school or a community agency. Nursing is considered as ‘in-demand career’, with shortages in skilled nurses projected over the next two decades. This is the fundamental reason for the growing importance of vocational nursing schools in the country.
