Venice is situated in Italy and has constructed several airports in different places. Venice Municipal Airport, also known as VNC, was built by the United States government in 1940. It was built to provide facilities for flight training during World War II. This airport was given to the City of Venice at the end of the war on the condition that it would not be used as an airport. In case it was used as an airport, government of United States would take it back then.
VNC now provides general aviation facility, which is along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico. It has two runways that intersect each other. Approximately
Almost 2 million take-offs and landings take place every year at VNC. Popularity of VNC has increased rapidly and there are approximately 234 aircrafts based here. Roughly 80 aircraft owners are on the waiting list for hangar space. This airport contributes almost $22 million to the economy of Venice.
Another famous and popular airport in Venice is the VCE or Venice Marco Polo Airport. VCE is closest to the city of Venice. All flights that connect European destinations, take off from this airport. Travelers who land at Marco Polo Airport can easily travel to Verona, Dolomite, and the Bologna Mountains, which surround the northeastern region of Italy. Terminal building of VCE is specially designed to accommodate approximately 6.5 million passengers every year. They offer services such as duty-free shopping, bank services, guest lounges, restaurants, information desk, car rental services, and many other facilities.
There are various airports in Venice, which have hotels in the vicinity. Travelers, who do not wish to stay away from airports, can avail facilities provided at airport hotels. It is very difficult to get a room in airport hotels during peak season unless advance booking is done.
Information about most leading airports in Venice can be acquired from Internet. Flight tickets can be booked along with airport hotel reservations through Internet.
