Stethoscopes are notoriously difficult to keep track of, especially in a busy hospital setting. Many children’s doctors have funny stethoscope covers that look like animals or cartoon characters. These covers can distract or calm anxious patients, allowing the doctor to work without much resistance from the child.
Stethoscope covers are useful for a number of reasons. They are inexpensive, usually less than $20, and can lengthen the life of the stethoscope, provide identification is the stethoscope goes missing, and make the doctor’s job easier when treating young children.
