Tennessee is one of the most sought after relocation destinations owing to its moderate climate, varied heritage, and musical background. Some of the regions in Tennessee offer the most fascinating views and remain close to the hearts of many tourists. It offers a great holiday experience to tourists of all ages and income groups. Tennessee also has a very interesting history, which dates back the inhabitation of the Mound Builders. Tennessee flourished with the work of art of these people who were the earliest inhabitants in this area.
Various tribes such as Chickasaw, Shawnee, Cherokee, and the Creek were the natives in that area when a European expedition under the supervision of De Soto first visited it in the year1540. The French explorers entered this region through the Mississippi River, and built more trading posts in that region. However, the Chickasaw tribe constantly harassed the French explorers. Around the same time, English long hunters and fur traders and (frontiersmen who spent long periods hunting in this area) came over the mountains from the Carolinas and Virginia, defeated the Cherokee. They also refuted and dismissed the claims of the French over that area.
In 1769, Virginians were the first permanent settlers in the Watauga River valley. The North Carolinians and some refugees from the Regulator movement also joined them. They established the Watauga Association in the year 1772 as an initial effort to form a government.
John Sevier was one of the most eminent persons of Tennessee who served during the American Revolution. After the war ended, North Carolina surrendered the western region to the federal government. This infuriated the settlers of E Tennessee settlers, as they were transferred without their permission. As a protest they formed an independent government under the leadership of Sevier. However, this government lasted for a very short period of time.
In the year 1790, the federal government formed the Territory of the United States and appointed William Blount as the governor. Finally in the year 1796, Tennessee was included in the Union as a slave state and Knoxville was made its capital.
