Garden benches are an accessory practically all gardens have. Garden benches are found in many materials and designs where one of the highly sought types is the teak garden bench.
Teak is grown in tropical countries like India, Malaysia and Thailand. Teak is a very beautiful and durable type of wood, giving it the reason to be so highly sought out. Teak wood is said to be kiln dried and not air dried, to make sure the wood is dried to the core. It can withstand the elements of nature like rain and sun year after year without any maintenance, and is naturally resistant to insects, splintering and warping. So this makes teak benches free from sealing, finishing and staining to remain sturdy and beautiful for years to come. Some of the teak park benches in European cities date back to more than 100 years! As brass never rusts even if left outside in the rain, most manufacturers of teak garden benches use brass castings, bolts and screws in the making of a teak garden bench. In addition to a teak garden bench being durable, it is also known for its rich warm color and satiny smooth surface. With time, the color of the teak garden bench may turn a mellow gray tone. Some people don’t mind this, while some try to retain the original color by annually applying coats of teak oil. Though this process is not required to protect the wood, many are of the opinion that this extends the life of teak furniture. If you do intend to oil your teak garden bench, remember to start applying oil before the color fades, and to apply it on a clean surface, lest the trapped dirt make the furniture turn black.
Though teak garden benches may prove to be expensive, it is a true investment in value. Instead of replacing your garden furniture every year or so, this one time investment in teak furniture saves you money over the years. Who knows, it may even outlive you to become a valued family heirloom!
