Tahiti is one of the largest islands of French Polynesia. It is located in the southern Pacific Ocean. The capital of Tahiti is Papeete, which is situated on the northwest coast. This island has mountains that are volcanic and a small town named Toravao is situated near one of these volcanic mountains. The natives of Tahiti have a Polynesian origin. Spanish explorers had discovered this island initially, but they made no effort to colonize it. Tahiti is close to South America and Los Angeles is just seven and a half hours journey via Hawaii. The landscape of this place is spectacular and tourists often visit it to spend their vacations.
The weather in Tahiti is hot and humid and there are heavy rains in the mountainous wind ward side that faces the shore. There is not a lot of variation in the weather and it is generally sunny here. The weather plays an important part for a varied flora and fauna in this Polynesian island. Flowers such as the hibiscus and frangipani are seen in abundance here. As per local customs, guests are welcome by placing a flower behind the left year.
Tourism is a booming industry in Tahiti. There are many archaeological wonders that are worth seeing at Tahiti. The lush green rain forest is home for a lot of vegetation. There are festivals that are celebrated in Tahiti, one of them being the heive festival that is prominently celebrated in the capital, Papeete. Exotic South Sea Islands that include activities such as boat riding, shark feeding and whale watching are a unique experience for the travelers.
Tahiti is a dream destination for divers as the sea waters are warm the year round and they can watch the active sea life through transparent blue waters. Raiatea Mountain is a place where there are mummies of former rulers of Tahiti. The people here consider this as a holy place.
A travel agent can help to plan a trip to Tahiti. If the traveler is a cruise enthusiast, there are day cruises as well as long cruie trips that are arranged.
