People who don’t have much free time but still wish to construct their sheds on their own settle for shed kits. Shed kits are pre-fixed arrangements of sidings, panels, doors, windows and roofs that can be assembled to construct an entire shed.
Shed kits come with all the components that are needed to make a shed. Using elementary skills of carpentry, any person can assemble these kits to make a shed. Shed kits do not have foundations and are not fixed to the ground. To compensate for this, shed kit manufacturers make their materials strong enough to withstand heavy gusts of wind. The materials are also weatherproofed and insect-proofed.
There is a wide array of shed kits available in all the styles that are commonly used. There are various sizes, ranging from the 6ft. by 6ft. to 12ft by 12ft. Smaller sheds have single doors and little headroom while larger sheds have double doors. Different roof and window styles are available. The price of a shed kit depends on the design of the shed.
Shed kits are available online and in several home centers, department stores, carpentry outlets, and discount stores in all three materials favored for shed building including metal, vinyl plastic, and wood.
Metal sheds are the most difficult to assemble. They need a lot of screws to be fitted in and many screws won’t fit exactly in other places and so they demand a lot of patience. They are the most durable type of shed, provided the metal is rustproof. Their prices may range from $175 to $300, depending on the size.
Poly vinyl carbonate sheds are easier to assemble and very durable. The only problem concerns the lightness of vinyl, which creates the possibility of the shed getting uprooted in a heavy gust of wind. Vinyl sheds are better anchored down to some kind of foundation. A modest sized vinyl shed costs around $250.
Wood sheds are the most expensive. Their prices fluctuate depending on the quality of wood. Good quality cedar wood sheds could cost approximately $700. Wood being a heavier material, the sizes of wood sheds are limited.
Shed kits can be dismantled as easily as they can be assembled, which is a great advantage when people decide to move. Many people just put their shed kits onto a large enough vehicle and carry it with them when they go for an outing. Some shed kits make it possible to arrange their components in different ways, so that a person can change the shape of the shed occasionally. But before ordering a shed kit, a person must find out whether there is any restriction to building a shed in the neighborhood.
