The 21st century has seen an unbelievable growth in technology that has dramatically changed the man’s capabilities. With the advent of space technology and telecommunication, nothing seems impossible to achieve. The space age began in 1946, when scientists began using German V-2 rockets to explore the upper atmosphere of the earth.
Satellites are very useful in the field of telecommunication. There are two types of satellites used in television and radio. They are the direct broadcast satellite and the fixed service satellite. Fixed service satellites use the C band and the lower portions of the Ku bands. They are normally used for broadcast feeds to and from television networks and local affiliate stations. A direct broadcast satellite is a communications satellite that transmits to small satellite dishes.
Communications satellites are artificial satellites stationed in space for the purposes of telecommunications using radio at microwave frequencies. Satellite systems are used to deliver data from a satellite down to a consumer. This term is used primarily to refer to digital satellite systems either for television or for internet access. It may also be used to refer to satellite radio technology. Satellite systems usually make use of a very small dish, which can be installed on any property with a line-of-sight to an orbiting satellite. In the case of television signals, digital satellite systems may also be referred to as direct broadcast systems (DBS). DBS is used to offer television services to consumers at extremely low prices. Of recent, they have become more popular than cable companies in some areas.
Satellite systems have made communication services simpler and more economical. Technology companies are constantly inventing satellites with greater capabilities and that can make telecommunications simpler and within the reach of an average consumer.
