Writing a resume cover letter can be testing time for many of us. It must be formal, yet appealing and say enough about you and your competency. It takes some amount of skill to write cover letters. You must remember that a resume cover letter introduces you to your prospective employer, helping you officially submit an application for a particular post. A good cover letter shows that you are interested to get the job. There are many ways, reasons and styles of writing such a letter. It could be a reply to an advertisement, or perhaps a colleague could have referred you for a position, or you could simply be sending a resume hoping to get noticed. Whatever your reasons, your cover letter has to be concise, to the point and interesting.
First of all remember to put in the specific job title or position you are applying for. Along with broad details about yourself, your letter must have clear reasons why you feel you fit that job. The reader must get sufficiently motivated to read your resume, consider you as a key candidate for an interview among the many applications received and then call you for a meeting or interview.
Emphasize your strengths, and significant abilities. Write out your qualifications, your experience and spell out your added skills. For example, if the company is into exports you could talk about the foreign languages you know. If you are fresh out of school, you can highlight the skills you have acquired through volunteering or on the job training. Write about the contests or events you have taken part in and e won. If you have won scholarships, or have honors in a subject, mention it.
Make your language positive, and action-oriented to convey enthusiasm. Do remember to keep your letter to the point and short. A cover letter should not exceed one page. As you sign off, make sure that you have specified the actions to be taken. Give your email address, cell phone and landline numbers and address. You could even include a self-addressed envelope.
