Most women prefer to use the progesterone cream in small quantities during pregnancy. Studies indicate this reduces stretch marks caused due to pregnancy. Light usage does not seem to have any unpleasant effects on the fetus if the mother uses natural progesterone.
Alternatives to this cream or synthetic progesterone are known to have a number of side effects on both the mother and the fetus. Studies indicate that babies whose mothers used progesterone cream during pregnancy are surprisingly healthy and did not experience toxemia during birth.
Most doctors these days recommend the usage of this cream during pregnancy or right after delivery. Mothers should stop applying the cream a couple of weeks before delivery in most cases. It can be applied on breasts, lower back, abdomen, or thighs to prevent stretch marks.
Some mothers use some dosage during the first six months of pregnancy and increase the dosage during the last trimester. The usage can be continued until about one month after delivery, as this provides relief from post partum depression. However, it is suggested to consult the doctor before continuing to use the cream.
Women who have a history of miscarriage will find progesterone cream particularly useful. It has been proven in a number of cases that usage of progesterone cream can help prevent miscarriages and premature labor. Though most physicians prefer to administer the natural progesterone, the prescription-based synthetic progesterone can be just as effective for women who fear miscarriage or premature labor.
Bodies of pregnant women usually produce a large amount of progesterone. If this is not the case then that might result in either miscarriage or pre-term labor. Such women can use progesterone cream to avoid such accidents.
