There are two kinds of cellular services: pre-paid and post-paid. The post-paid service is one where the customer enters into a contract with the service provider and pays for the airtime used after a monthly bill is generated. In contrast, a pre-paid connection works through a system of charge cards.
If the customer has subscribed to a pre-paid plan, he will need to buy a recharge card that will credit his account with some airtime. The customer can use the connection until the airtime is available. Once the customer exhausts all the airtime he needs to go out and purchase another recharge card to make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls.
Pre-paid connections are hassle-free, though the calling rates are usually higher than post-paid plans, and some services may be unavailable to pre-paid users. The pre-paid market is growing at a very fast pace. Several people are opting for pre-paid plans, especially those who make limited use of their cellular phones.
A pre-paid connection doesn’t require the customer to go through credit checks, and most service providers do not even charge any monthly service fees. Customers also don’t pay any security money. This makes pre-paid connections a good option for people with limited financial resources. The paperwork required for a pre-paid connection is also less, and there is no signing of a contract or verification involved. Customers don’t even need to reveal their real name and identity when applying for a pre-paid connection. This anonymity has made pre-paid connections rather infamous, as they can be used for unscrupulous activities.
A pre-paid connection is also very useful for people who travel frequently. If the customer is traveling to another country he will need roaming activated on his post-paid connection. The call costs and security costs are much higher for this roaming service. Sometimes it is just easier to buy a pre-paid connection in the country you are traveling to.
It is not surprising that pre-paid connections are getting more popular, with so many advantages to offer. However, every customer must consider his or her requirements before opting for the hassle-free pre-paid option.
