Usually, pre-paid cell phone plans are very affordable. Costing less then $100, they are often offered with rebates, a starter phone card or other similarly attractive deals. People find them convenient, as they don’t have to enter into a binding monthly contract as with other conventional plans. Callers can purchase as much talk time they want. It can be bothersome to dish out $20 to $30 as a fixed charge every month if you want to own a cell phone only for occasional use. Going for a prepaid phone will serve as an answer to your minimal calling needs.
On the flip side, if you do not use the minutes in the stipulated duration than the talk minutes will ‘expire’ and you cannot use them for calling. This time period can be anything between six months to thirty days, and varies with the service provider. Experts suggest that if you have to choose a pre-paid cell phone plan, start with a minimal number of minutes and replenish the talk time on a regular basis. Generally speaking, the cheaper the plan the lesser the active use time.
Some carriers give you the ability to carry over unused minutes if you keep on adding new minutes before the old plan expires. Many services permit you to call 911 even after your talk time is finished. Read the terms carefully; due to some loopholes in the expiration policies you may have to pay some amount as a monthly charge even if you don’t use the given minutes.
