Postage Meter Tape

In an office, the postage meter makes the complicated process of mail dispatching a breeze. All the postage meters are equipped to hold $1,000 in postage and can send first-class, and priority as well as express mail, in addition to handling packages of various sizes.

In processing large packages or odd-shaped mail, it is technically difficult to print the indicia directly on to the object. In such cases, strips of adhesive tapes are fed through the meter and affixed to the package. This is done with great care to prevent the meter from overlooking the strip and wasting the postage. In the event that packages are a routine part of the mail, the best choice is a base fitted with a tape dispenser.

There are two varieties of tape dispensers in the market. Pre-cut dispensers use a single piece of tape, while some others use a roll of tape. Bases that are fitted with the roll-tape dispensers are significantly more expensive but in the long-run, prove to be much more cost effective.

The pre-cut labels come in different standard sizes and may be white, colored, or clear polyester. Inkjet and laser labels are also available based on the printer compatibility.

Postage tapes specific for the model of the postage meter, such as the Whisper Jet tapes, can be obtained on demand. Whisper Jet tapes, Standard Half Tapes, Long Half Tapes, Single-use Short Tapes, Single-use Full Tapes, and Pinwheel Postage Tapes are some of the commonly used adhesive labels. These vary in the overall sheet size and the size of the imprint area.

There have been reports of cases where the postage tapes have been altered and used without the proper payment of postage. This sticky business has validated the implementation of a locking mechanism to the meter component of the equipment.
