The coffee industry is constantly searching for ways to make life easier for a coffee enthusiast. The pod coffee maker is specially created for the impatient coffee drinker on the run. No more waiting each morning for the coffee pot to brew. Pod coffee makers do the job in just two minutes. Pods are single serve packets of ground coffee, individually sealed for freshness. These pods look like large tea bags. They contain the exact amount of espresso required to deliver a perfect cup every time. Coffee pods are available in different brew strengths including dark roast, medium roast and mild roast. Each pod usually measures 2 inches in diameter
Unlike high-pressure espresso machines, Pod coffee makers use a low level of pressure to speed up the brewing process. The boiler of the machine heats the water and drives it through the coffee grounds. Pre-packed coffee pods are used in order to maintain the right amount of pressure and water flow through the coffee and thus produce an optimal brew. The pressurized system produces a thick foamy layer on top of the coffee. One cup can be brewed at a time and the whole process takes less than two minutes from when you turn on the machine, to when you can drink your fresh coffee.
Most pod coffee makers have a stand by function that enables brewing another fresh cup of coffee at any time. The auto off feature ensures that the appliance automatically switches itself off after an hour. A pod coffee maker can brew and dispense a cup of coffee in seconds. They currently make up more than 5 percent of coffee machines sold in the U.S.
The invention of the pod coffee maker filled a need in the market. Consumer research pointed out that coffee drinkers have long desired a product similar to tea bags, which would satisfy their need for an instant cup of coffee.
