Wedding bands have their history in ancient Egypt, where the Egyptians exchanged fashioned rings and bracelets from reeds and other plants growing on the Nile River, to represent never-ending love for all eternity. However, American men started wearing wedding bands during World War II. This was to prove the commitment to their partners waiting for them back in the USA.
The best metals for a wedding ring for men are gold, platinum, titanium and silver. They can be plain or set with semi-precious stones like the diamond solitaire, diamond solitaires with accents, and other precious gemstones. The process of choosing a wedding ring might prove daunting to most men. However, it is important to know what to look for when choosing a wedding ring since it has to be worn for a long time. Of course, the most important thing to be considered is the budget. Also, it should suit the lifestyle and personality as well as being comfortable to wear. Consider if the ring can be worn to work or require a simpler design so it would not be caught in the machines while working.
Sometimes, the ring should be of the kind that can be cut of during emergencies. People doing manual labor need to go for a ring that can withstand the harsh treatment. A custom made or unusual ring can be chosen if the ring is worn only during special occasions or weekends. Men, who chose to wear the ring on a chain if not allowed to wear to work, need to go for a plain kind of ring that can be easily worn on a chain.
Men used to rough sports need to go for a design that can sustain this. A classic gold band might be suitable in such occasions. A small variation to the band can be made such as a ribbed edge, a white gold inlay stripe, a satin finish textured ring rather than a polished texture, a two-tone ring with yellow and white gold or a woven pattern.
Most men these days prefer a unique touch to the ring like using a different metal like titanium or platinum or a latest laser cut instead of gold. An unusual metal like peach-gold or colored stones instead of diamonds might help in creating that custom design that might appeal to men who want that something special. Men who have a different heritage might wish to go for a claddagh, a diamond or a Celtic ring. Most popular are the designs that have softly rounded edges or a flat band with a very gentle rounded inside edge as also the ones with a comfort curve inside the ring.
