Mens Underwear

In earlier days, male underwear consisted of just briefs and boxers, and neither came in flattering styles or colors. These days, men have nearly as many underwear choices as women (including a thong), with a variety of styles to suit all requirements and body types.

An elastic waistband, a Y-shaped front fly, fabric that covers skin from the waist to the upper thighs, and full coverage of the buttocks, all mark the traditional-style briefs. Mid-rise briefs are similar in every aspect but rest two inches below the waist, whereas low-rise briefs rest three inches below the waist. The latter styles work well with low-rise jeans.

Boxer shorts are the loosest, and hence, the most comfortable male underwear. The shorts have straight-cut leg openings and cover part of the thighs and the buttocks. Tapered boxers are similar in every aspect except that the leg openings are molded to the thigh, and there are side vents. The drawback is that boxers offer no support.

Boxer briefs are the middle ground between a boxer and a brief. They are cut like tapered boxers, but fit tightly like briefs. The underwear works under all types of clothes, but is especially valuable under tighter pants and during athletic activities.

Undershirts are sleeveless and feature wide shoulder straps, large armholes, and a low U-shaped neckline. These undershirts work well under dress shirts and button-downs, and cannot be seen when wearing open collars. Being sleeveless makes it a good option under dress shirts. The wearer should ensure that it is a relatively thin material so that it is not visible under the dress shirt. It is advisable to opt for the classic white cotton undershirt when wearing it under clothes. Colored undershirts can be worn alone as shirts in warm weather, either at the gymnasium or around the house.
