You can go on a little adventure on every inch of Maui. You adventure can be in the air, on land, on water, and under the sea. Although lounging on the beach and soaking up the sun while listening to the crashing of the waves on the white sand may seem like the perfect way to enjoy your Maui vacation, make sure that you get around a bit, as there is a lot to do and see. Traveling families will find that there are activities catering to every member of the family.
Land Adventures
The volcanic hills are very popular. You can explore the crater on your own and enjoy beautiful sunsets here. You should also visit the wildlife sanctuary and bathe in the waterfalls. You can also go hiking. There are pre-arranged eco tours that take you through the lush forests and a 6-hour excursion costs roughly $115 per person.
A visit to the 1500-year-old Kahakuloa village is a must if you want a real taste of Hawaiian culture and their way of life. There are guided tours that take you through the farms whilst telling you stories and legends of the valley. You can also visit the old leper colony at Molokai. You can get a taste of Hawaiian tradition and culture here but it is open only for those above 16.
Air Adventures
You can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the island by taking a helicopter ride. Watch out for the Wall of Tears in the West Maui Mountains. On the trip you will get spectacular views of canyons, waterfalls and rainforests. While on the helicopter you will also get a brief introduction to the land’s flora, fauna, history and culture. You ride could take from 30 to 100 minutes and costs between $125 and $280.
Water Adventures
You can take lessons in scuba, surfing, windsurfing, sailing and other water sports. You can also go snorkeling and explore the shallow waters on your own.
Underwater Adventures
You can take a submarine ride to see rare tropical fish that dwell 100 feet below the surface of water. An adult ticket aboard the submarine costs $80 and you pay $40 for children under 12.
