Jamaica is a Caribbean island located 391 miles east of the Central American mainland, 93 miles south of Cuba. Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, offers a wide-range of business and commercial opportunities along with being the home to some of the greatest museums of the island, which form tourist hotspots. For tourists searching for quiet and serene place to visit, Mandeville can prove to be the apt vacationing spot, which is a small village secreted between a range of hills.
Montego Bay in Jamaica has an international airport and hence, tourists usually start their adventurous exploring from this part of the city. Montego Bay has the Runaway Bay, which is dotted with numerous resorts for tourists to lodge in, and Ocho Rios, where honeymooners and couples have an enchanting time enjoying the scenic and romantic beauty of the area. Ocho Rios, referred to as Ochi by locals, apart from being the most popular tourist attractions of the country is also a cruise port and has the Dunn’s River Falls.
The western end of the island is Negril, where travelers can enjoy a variety of sporting activities and witness the various live music bands showcasing their talents. The eastern end of the island is Port Antonio, which is an ideal location for people who want a secluded spot to enjoy peace and quite.
English is the main language of the island, but a tourist will also encounter Patois, which is a mixture of English, Spanish, Portuguese, and African phrases mixed with Jamaican jargon. Patois, being a mixture of so many other languages is often tricky to understand and poses a real dilemma for tourists who come across a group of natives not well versed with English.
Other attractions include the local reggae music, dance shows, theatres, cruise fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and other ‘recreational’ activities.
