Many Catholic believers consider the appearance of Mother Mary in various parts of the world, requesting the recitation of the Rosary, to be a miracle. It is believed that Mary gave this prayer to the world centuries ago and it also serves as a meditation on the life of her Divine Son.
The rosary is a combination of vocal and mental prayer, replicating significant occurrences in the life of Christ and his mother. Countless Catholics pray five decades of the rosary everyday. However, there are a substantial number of devotees who pray all twenty decades on a daily basis.
When a Christian starts reciting the rosary prayer, at first one has to make the sign of the cross and say the ‘Apostles’ Creed. After this, a person has to say the ‘Our Father,’ three ‘Hail Marys’ and recite the ‘Glory be to the Father.’ Following this, one has to announce the First Mystery; then say the ‘Our Father’ and repeat ten ‘Hail Marys,’ whilst meditating on the mystery. Reciting the ‘Glory be to the Father’ completes this part of the recital.
Next, the Second Mystery is announced followed by the ‘Our Father’ and a repetition of the ten ‘Hail Marys’, which is continued with the Third, Fourth and Fifth Mysteries in the same approach.
While reciting the rosary some believers may face a difficulty in understanding the combination of vocal and mental prayers. A better way to understand the prayer is not to focus ones attention on the ‘Hail Marys’ but use this time to concentrate on the life and passion of Jesus. Some believers may also face difficulty in keeping their mind on the mystery of the rosary they are praying. To help solve that problem, people must focus their attention on the mysteries and try to understand them.
The purpose of the rosary is to help a devotee remember certain important events or mysteries that occurred in the past, which helped mankind attain deliverance. The rosary is a medium to thank and praise God for these occurrences.
