Horse tack is a set of equipment used while riding a horse. Typically, horse tack consists of a halter, saddle, saddle pad, stirrup, bridle, Girth (English) / Cinches (Western), lead ropes, martingale, harnesses, and breastplates. The bridle consists of the headstall, chin strap, bits and reins. Tacking a horse is the act of fitting the horse with all this equipment.
Horse tack is of many kinds, depending on the material used, the size and the model. Traditionally, only leather horse tack was available. But leather horse tack is very expensive and is also difficult to maintain and care for. Today, tack is also being made with synthetic materials such as nylon, which makes the tack less expensive, easy to maintain and lightweight. An entire nylon tack set costs only $125.
There are many stores today that offer horse tack products for sale. The main categories are: breastcollars, cinches, halters and leads, headstalls and reins, nosebands, protective boots and wraps, stirrups and training aids. Tack may be basically classified as Western and English. Most stores have both these kinds of tack. These stores can also be accessed through the internet. There are hundreds of sites which have horse tack for sale. These sites contain pictures of the tack, with product details, prices, comparison charts, and reviews by other buyers. This makes the purchase much easier. There are also stores that sell used saddles at very low prices. The products can also be purchased online with easy steps and payment procedures. Many of these sites also offer 20-30% off on products. For instance, saddles that are priced at around $2,400 and $2,000 can be purchased at around $1,750 and $1,500 respectively. Similarly, halters priced at around $350 will be on sale for $270 and Western stirrups can be bought for just over $45. Some online stores also provide warranties and return policies with the products.
