In literal terms, freight forwarding means the smooth flow of international trade between countries, and freight forwarders are the people who ensure that internationally traded goods reach the destination safely from the place of their origin. The services of freight forwarder are vital in the export process. They are people who advise clients in the logistics of transporting goods around the world.
One of the critical ingredients for trading in the global markets is that each transaction should be in accordance with the myriad statutory measures and their related procedures, especially with the ones associated with Customs. This becomes one of the areas where the knowledge and services of a freight forwarder is needed. Freight forwarders are also responsible for locating the best or most inexpensive vessel for transporting the goods without any damage.
Every business runs on risk, and while operating in the international markets, the peril to run the business is always on a higher side. International traders always seek advice from their forwarders for assisting them in minimizing these risks that are associated with the movement of goods, such as loss, damage and destruction.
Freight forwarders are most often entrusted with materials under the condition where buyer and seller are not known to each other. Given the circumstances, a forwarder has to ensure that all requirements are duly adhered to. They also have to ensure that proper documentation has been made, to not only satisfy the traders but also the receiver.
The professional forwarders are also expected to know about the constantly changing regulations that affect cargo movements across the nations. Some of them include foreign documentation requirements, U.S. government regulations, hazardous materials rules, special packaging or handling restrictions, and any applicable licensing provisions.
Industry analysts believe that the role of forwarder would be key, because companies have been increasingly outsourcing their non-core activities which they do not specialize in.
