One way to obtain a free credit report is to seek the advice of a professional service that reviews and monitors credit reports. This is a good idea if you think your credit rating is low, and you are looking for a way to eliminate much of the debt that you have.
Free ratings can also be obtained for the three credit bureaus located in the US. TransUnion, Experian and Equifax by law have to give us a copy of our credit report at least once a year. The score they have as our credit rating determines whether we qualify for mortgages, refinancing loans, credit cards, etc.
Often times employers might ask to pull a credit report to review the financial standings of a potential employee. Since you have to give permission for this transaction to transpire, then you can ask for a copy of the report at the same time. If there are any inaccuracies on the report, you can kill two birds with one stone by reporting the mistakes to the credit bureaus, as well as letting your potential employer known that there are errors on the report.
There are also services that provide free credit reports on the Internet. But, you have to be very careful about these services, as they usually require that you pay a fee at some time or other. They may offer you a glimpse at a portion of your report, but in order to view the whole report, you may have to pay a substantial fee.
Free reports can help you keep a check on what your rating is, and how to keep it in good standing. You can also make sure that no one has stolen and is using your identity by making illegal purchases.
