Flat screen televisions are fast becoming a high definition alternative to standard CRT televisions. Flat screen televisions create an exceptional entertainment environment, with perfect digital picture and excellent audio clarity. The ultra-thin design and flat viewing surface of flat screen televisions make it as easy as hanging a picture on the wall. With unparalleled flexibility and expediency, they set a new trend in the digital television world.
Basically, two types of flat screen televisions are now available – plasma and LCD. With plasma flat screen televisions, a good-quality picture is produced by passing electricity through a combination of inert gases (xenon and neon), which is kept between two glass panels. On the other hand, LCD flat screen televisions use the fundamental liquid crystal display technology.
Plasma flat screen televisions produce high quality pictures and have better viewing angles than the LCD flat panel televisions. They cost less and come in larger sizes. However, LCD flat screen televisions have their own advantages. They are generally lighter and consume less power when compared to the plasma televisions. Further, LCD flat screen televisions have a longer life span than the plasmas.
With flat screen televisions, one can enjoy a distraction-free viewing. As they possess a width-to-height ratio (aspect ratio) similar to that of the movie theater screens, flat screen televisions offer a thrilling cinema-style entertainment at home. Though costlier than the contemporary CRT televisions, flat screen televisions are extremely attractive and space-saving. Most of the flat screen televisions perform best with digital cable and DVD player.
Although most of the products are becoming miniscule in the world of technology, the size of flat screen televisions is increasing every year. The world’s largest plasma television measures 102 inches, whereas the largest LCD flat screen is only 82 inches in size.
