‘Fiesta’ is a Spanish term that refers to a celebration on a grand scale. Nations with a Spanish heritage organize fiestas to commemorate the births of their leaders, saints, and patrons. These fiestas are huge celebrations that, at time, can even last up to a week. However, for most individuals a fiesta just means a party with a Mexican theme that is used as an excuse to practice silly ‘El Gringo’ accents and have a blast with the tequila.
A fiesta is an extravagant affair that generally does not work on small budgets. The event also requires little imagination since the fiesta party theme is already well established and needs little adjustment to fit time and space constraints. The first aspect of the planning is the designing of the venue to make it fall in place with the Mexican motif. Wallpapers with sombreros, mules, peppers, and cacti can be used to cover the walls. Another brilliant idea would be to set up the venue as a dessert scene, with wallpapers depicting the desolate emptiness and things such as sand, tangled weeds, cactus plants adding to the dxe9cor. Tablecloths with the same kind of designs can also be used to decorate the dining areas. Supplies for all these things can be easily obtained from party stores that specialize in Mexican decorations.
The next things on the party format are the costumes and there is a large choice in this section. Most individuals are content with just slipping on sombreros and jingling maracas while others prefer full-blown Mexican outfits. These outfits are available with most costume stores and can even be assembled through purchases from department stores. The accessories such as fake guns, hats, and maracas can be obtained from party stores or Mexican boutiques. The last and best part of any fiesta party is the pixf1ata, a horse shaped effigy filled with sweets and candies. Traditionally, the person, for whom the fiesta is being celebrated, is blindfolded and made to smash the pixf1ata floating in the air. A pixf1ata can be ordered from online fiesta suppliers or can even be created at home.
