Female bodybuilding continues to gain popularity day by day. More and more women wish to achieve near-perfect symmetry to their bodies by having defined curves in all the right places. Women have also recognized the importance of a bodybuilding workout in making their muscles firm and toned. Not only do well-formed muscles achieved through workouts help develop a beautiful body, they also improve one’s health and physical strength.
Female bodybuilding does not differ all that much from male bodybuilding. Men and women have the same number of muscles that react and contract in the same manner to a physical workout. The main difference between the two sexes is that men have testosterone, a muscle-building hormone, while women have estrogen, a fat-storing hormone. This does not mean, however, that women are more likely to gain weight than men are. Women who work out adequately can burn fat and develop more muscles.
Some women refuse to undergo bodybuilding because they think that if they stop exercising or working out, their muscles will be converted into fat. This is a common misconception. Muscles can never be transformed to fat because the two are completely different tissues. Fat results from unburned calories that get stored in the body when one’s calorie intake stays the same and physical activity is reduced or ceased. This is true for all people, even bodybuilders. When bodybuilders get older or retire, they will eventually gain weight because their metabolism slows down and their physical activity decreases.
Bodybuilding has a lot of advantages for women, especially if done appropriately and on a regular basis. However, without hard work, determination, and patience, women can never achieve the physical look they want. They will have to settle for the original shape of their bodies.
