Health insurance plans are intended to cover patients’ medical treatment expenses. Health insurance policy involves a contract between the health insurance provider and the insured, which the insured buys with regular periodic payments known as premium. Policy owners might have to make some other types of payments, depending on the plan chosen. Health insurance plans are divided in two major categories known as individual dental insurance and group dental insurance. Individual health plans are purchased to cover the expenses incurred due to any unexpected medical requirement. However, customers can choose to purchase health insurance coverage for themselves as well as for their whole family. Family health insurance plans not only protect the whole family, but they also turn out to be more cost-effective in the long run.
When health insurance is bought for the entire family, the overall coverage is quite economical when compared with individual coverage for each person. The reason for reasonable pricing is that every member of the family will not necessarily utilize health insurance, as most of the common ailments are very preventive in nature. Most general diseases can usually be prevented through regular check-ups and maintaining healthy and hygienic habits. People who follow a regular health regime such as not eating too much of junk food and taking regular exercise will rarely need to use their health insurance. However, it is a widely acknowledged fact that every now and then someone in a family requires medical treatment. For such situations, health insurance policy covers the cost of the treatment and prevents the expense incurred from going beyond the policy owners’ resources.
There are also certain specially designed health insurance options available for low-income groups, as they usually find the cost of health care much beyond their means. For them health insurance is available through Medicaid, which is a joint Federal-State health insurance program managed by state governments. Medicaid covers certain low-income groups such as children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.
