This entails proper understanding of the factors that not only ensures recruitment of skilful people but also their retention. In order to achieve this objective, companies undertake surveys.
Given the availability of ample employment opportunities for skilled people, it becomes imperative for the companies to make sure that employees procured do not leave the organization. Attrition in any company leads to loss of revenue incurred in hiring and training of the personnel. So surveys help the companies to get a fair idea of employee satisfaction and their chances of providing continued service to the company. Surveys conducted may be employee commitment, employee recognition, employee motivation and last but not the least employee climate conditions prevailing in the company.
The survey starts with preparation of questions related to employee satisfaction level with respect to infrastructure, salary structure, management policies and overall working conditions. The responses derived help to draw inferences as per the adequacy of the organizational system, current state of employee retention, and potential risks to employee retention and thereby strategies to be followed to rectify the loopholes and improve the current situation.
Employee commitment surveys are ways of detecting the extent to which employees are committed to the company and the company’s cause and also reasons that are major hurdles on the way of employee commitment .The feedback gathered leads to adoption of appropriate policies that enhance commitment level of the employees.
Employee commitment to the organization is in turn dependant on the existence of motivating factors in the form of rewards. Such rewards can be monetary benefits, vote of thanks at a group meeting or individually, letter of commendation or a small-personalized gift. The surveys are done by making the employees fill out forms highlighting how they would like to be rewarded .The responses indicate problem areas that demotivate the employees and the adoption of the measures to rectify them accordingly.
Employee climate surveys are used where the intention is to get the feedback of the employees about working conditions and also their receptivity to the proposed changes in the companies such as mergers, acquisitions, launch of new products or services and the relocation of the company.
Employee surveys are tailor made for the organization and serve as potential tools for the employees to voice their concerns about staffing, salary, compensation, harmony among workers and other things related to them. It is also beneficial for the companies as it enables them to bring about improvement and gain a competitive edge.
