A large number of educational bookstores have come up over the last few decades. The growth of educational stores is closely linked with the growth of educational publishing, and a growing consciousness among children as well as grown-ups about the importance of educational books.
Educational bookstores have also become popular, as they are now prepared and packaged in such a way to attract the attention of children. Small educational bookstores often sell books for school or for college. They offer a limited number of books. As the profit margins are not very high in the educational books segment of the publishing industry, small educational bookstores are not able to make a substantial amount of money.
However, with a number of top publishing and retail chains opening educational bookstores, the smaller players have been marginalized in this market. Now the big names and top brands rule the roost. By sheer volume of sales, they are able to make sufficient profits.
Many educational bookstores are exclusively meant for school or for higher education. Some of them sell only medical or engineering books, while others only deal in art and literature-related books.
Many educational bookstores have a special segment of used books. It generally contains those expensive books that a lower-income family may not be able to afford new, but can buy at a much lower price.
Most of the educational bookstores offer heavy discounts during ‘clearance sales.’ You can get some good books at a nominal cost on such occasions. Many book lovers often wait for such an opportunity to make bulk purchases. There are several online educational bookstores also. Some offer books at lower prices.
