DSL Providers are companies and agencies that offer DSL technology, bringing high bandwidth information to businesses and homes through copper telephone lines. To receive a DSL service, a local telephone service through the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) is necessary. There are several DSL providers offering high-speed Internet connections. Some of the major DSL providers include Pacific Bell, SNET, Verizon, Qwest, SBC, Ameritech, Southwestern Bell and Bell South.
DSL service providers offer various packages, tailor made for consumer needs. The main differences in these packages include speed and the direction that the data is delivered. For example, ADSL can provide higher data rates towards the subscriber than it does in the other direction. This type of DSL connection is perfect for home users who mainly use the Internet to search and download information. The symmetrical high-speed DSL (SDSL) is considered an ideal package for enterprise subscribers who continuously send and receive data, or for those businesses that may need a two-way communication, like videoconferencing.
As the competition in the DSL market rises, DSL providers are offering various features to attract their customers. When selecting a DSL provider, various factors need careful scrutiny. These factors include the price, dependability and service, DSL hardware, email accounts, web site features and networking. The features offered by a DSL provider vary according to the plan and the provider selected. But most of the schemes offered by are more or less the same. Hence, before deciding on any DSL provider, it is useful to check whether the provider is offering the best services and features, and that the package selected is the ideal one.
