Troubled teens often with emotional and behavioral disorders lag academically as they are not able to concentrate in their studies. Curriculum for troubled teens is designed to inspire and realize the youth about the importance of education in their lives. Counseling along with behavioral and emotional therapy is also an integral part of the curriculum.
Schools which admit troubled teens give extra coaching in different subjects so that they are no left out. Curriculum for troubled teens includes detailed study of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Sciences for various grades. Normally the teacher student ratio is 1:8 and maximum individual participation is permitted in the classrooms. Students are given opportunities to communicate with the teacher to solve their problems. Homework is given to make them concentrate more in the academic activities. Weekly evaluation about the progress of the student’s life is also conducted.
College preparatory high school curriculum for troubled teens helps students from grade 9 to 12. This also includes courses in English, Social sciences, laboratory science, mathematics, and physical education. Students have the option to choose elective subjects from social sciences, mathematics, sciences, and fine arts. Twelve month academic period is divided into three terms and a credit system is used for evaluation. Human ecology included in the curriculum of troubled teens helps to develop emotional growth of all the students. A specific number of credits are needed for a student to secure a high school diploma. To earn this diploma, students must complete an English course for four years and mathematics from preliminary standards for three years along with laboratory science, social science, and physical education.
Curriculum for troubled teens is also integrated with several preparatory courses for higher studies. Opportunities for students to take advanced placement examinations are given by schools which treat delinquent youth. Preference for physical education classes, various campus and social activities are given in the curriculum for troubled teens to make them participate in a healthy and competitive environment.
