If cooking is more than just a hobby or a life-long obsession, you may want to consider taking a few short courses on the different types of food preparation. But if your passion extends beyond just plain delighting friends, family and neighbors and you’d like to learn money cooking – you must earn a degree in culinary arts. There are several culinary arts colleges that offer extensive courses and trainings. Many offer scholarships to help lessen the burdens of tuition. You can choose form among the many independent culinary arts colleges built and run by professional chefs or retired chef, and established institutions with international networks and fame.
When choosing the right college, consider the extent of trainings and wealth of experience that students are receiving from that institution. Renowned faculty with established credibility is always a top requirement. Look also at the kind of kitchen equipment that they allow students to use. Culinary art colleges are expensive, so you might as well get the most for what you pay. Culinary arts colleges offer diploma courses on baking, food safety, and soups and sauces preparation, among many others. These kinds of programs run for six to nine months. But full degree programs towards a Bachelor of Science degree last as long as four years, including externships at actual work places, restaurants, hotels, cruise liners and resorts. Famous celebrities and rich tycoons also employ graduates of culinary arts colleges as personal chefs.
Graduating from a culinary arts college does not guarantee an individual the title of chef. The title is given to real masters of cooking and those who have the management skill to take charge in the kitchen. The distinction is earned through years of experience and reputation building among clients and patrons.
