Cordless vacuums are electrical devices that are normally used for small scale cleaning activities such as cleaning a computer system, a television, or the inside of a car. They provide flexibility of operations as they are portable and can be carried anywhere without the hassles of dealing with lengthy electrical cables.
Cordless vacuums operate on twelve or twenty four-volt DC batteries. These batteries are normally rechargeable and can be charged within ten to twelve hours when connected to a 110-volt AC current. Other features include a battery power indicator that switches off when the battery power falls below a certain predetermined level. The automatic shutdown function helps in increasing the operational life of batteries used in cordless vacuums.
Most cordless vacuums are lightweight and contain basic components such as small DC powered electrical motor, suction fans, and garbage collection bag. The garbage bag is placed in front of the suction fan and collects any material sucked in by the suction fan. The suction power of cordless vacuums is substantially less than other vacuum devices that use direct AC power. This makes them most suitable for sucking lightweight items such as dust particles, dead skin flakes, small paper and food crumbs, and other material present on the surface of car seats and cushions.
Cordless vacuums can also be used to clean the insides of small electronic devices such as mobile phones, palmtops, MP3 players, PDAs, and desktop PCs. The relatively low level of suction generated in these devices is enough to clean the circuits and components without adversely affecting their functioning.
The portability and easy to use features of cordless vacuums have increased their usage in domestic households and small offices. The most important thing that should be considered before buying a cordless vacuum is to assess the total working time of a vacuum on a single charge. A cordless vacuum that provides three to four hours of workability on a single charge should be preferred.
