The term alcohol rehabilitation refers to alcohol detoxification in rehab centers under the supervision of a doctor followed by psychotherapy or group therapy to deal with the underlying psychological reasons leading to alcoholism. The actual definition of detoxification is a treatment for addiction to drugs or alcohol intended to rid the body of the addictive substances, and the physiological and mental readjustment that accompanies the process. Detoxification is necessary before beginning treatment and recovery. Recovery from alcohol addiction will otherwise be very difficult to achieve. If alcohol residuals remain in the body, cravings will continue. Alcohol detoxification should be done under the care of a licensed medical facility. To detoxify from alcohol without proper professional help is extremely dangerous. This can lead to serious physical, psychological, and emotional consequences. Sometimes even death.
Christian alcohol rehab centers provide a beautiful, serene atmosphere conducive to spiritual reflection and recovery. In these faith-based rehabilitation programs, applying Christian principles helps people effectively overcome the destructive power of alcohol and drug addiction. Whether it involves the abuse of drugs or alcohol, the behavior of the addicted person influences many lives. Those mainly affected are spouses and children, parents and siblings, and close friends. This rehab considers the needs of the family and involves them throughout the rehabilitation, healing and recovery process. The program tracks are specifically designed to meet the needs of Christian alcoholics and addicts. They usually have professional staff and clergy representing Lutheran, Redeemer Free, Catholic, Assembly of God, Methodist, and Southern Baptist denominations. Pastors from other denominations are also available if necessary. The patients are encouraged to pray and meditate on God’s word three times a day in the chapel. The main aim is that the patient should experience Lord Jesus walking with them through treatment and providing them that special divine healing touch.
The patients learn about their new spiritual journey through weekly individual meetings with a clergy person who acts as a mentor and does the counseling. A confession and spiritual renewal occurs where the patient admits to God and another human being, the exact nature of his/her wrongs and vows to turn his/her life over to the Lord. Through prayer and meditation, the patient is encouraged to improve his conscious contact with God each day. As the patient understands God, he seeks only the knowledge of his will and asks for the power and courage to carry that out. These programs make the patient and his family mentally strong and as a result they are able to withstand their trials and tribulations in a better manner and come out victorious. As popular saying goes, ‘Faith can move mountains’.
