Chiropractors have not been accepted by the medical field for many decades. In fact, in the past, the chiropractic industry had to sue the American Medical Association, the Joint Council on Accreditation of Hospitals and American College of Physicians for labeling the industry as a member of the Quack committee. In an effort to promote the acceptance of chiropractic care, clinics are placed inside highly visited establishments such as malls, train stations and airports, where they are widely accessible to the public.
Some people think that a massage therapist and a chiropractor are one and the same. That could not be further from the truth. The difference between the two is that a chiropractor has a licensing requirement that has to be fulfilled before he or she can begin practicing. Though many of the medical professionals dispute the methods of chiropractors, the educational background is highly medical in nature. A chiropractor is required to have a combination of theoretical classroom knowledge, laboratory work and hands-on experiences. Before a chiropractor is able to practice, he or she has to train in laboratory diagnosis, orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, physiotherapy and nutrition.
Chiropractors set up clinics in gyms and often times in sports club for athletes. Athletes are the most common visitors to a chiropractor’s clinic, as they prefer this type of alternative treatment to surgery. As an athlete, you want to avoid any surgery as a remedy to your injury because of the lengthy recovery period and therapy. With the chiropractic option, the doctor would engage in spinal readjustment to provide you with better comfort.
