CD copiers are devices that are used to make copies of CDs. CD copiers can copy all types of CDs such as CD-Roms, CD-Rs, DVDs, audio CDs, game CDs, etc.
Traditional CD copiers are manually operated. The CD copier is attached to a computer through a SCSI port. The CD copier uses burning software that is installed on the computer. CD copiers can generally make only one copy at a time. Even speeds are slow, like 8 times or 12 times. After one CD is copied, the user has to manually open the drive shutter (or press a button provided for that purpose) and replace it with another blank CD for copying. Naturally, copying CDs with a manual PC attached copier is a slow process.
Modern CD copiers are called as standalone copiers, because they do not require a computer for attachment. They have a hard disc of their own, which may have a memory of up to 160 GB. The burning software is installed on this hard disc. Standalone copiers are quite efficient for multi-session copying.
Standalone CD copiers are designed in a tower format. They contain several CD writers stacked one above the other. All these CD writers can intake one CD each and copy. Thus, all CD drives simultaneously copy information onto their CDs. The process takes place much faster. Standalone CD copiers also have greater speeds, up to 52 times.
Today, automated CD copiers are being used. Automated CDs have an input spindle and an output spindle. Blank CDs are stacked on the input spindle. A robotic arm selects CD from the input spindle, one at a time, and sends it into the drive for copying. When done, the CD is automatically placed onto the output spindle. This is a hands-free process, but takes a long time.
There are several downloadable software programs available, which can be used to burn CDs. Programs, are specially designed for single CD duplication or multi-session duplication. These software programs can also convert file formats for specific use.
