Breast augmentation surgery can only happen after repeated sessions, examinations and analysis by a qualified surgeon. The operation generally involves the doctor making an incision and creating a compartment within the woman’s breast. This compartment is made either beneath the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle. The breast implant is then placed in the pocket, centered behind the nipple. Finally, the original incision is stitched.
The surgeon decides which augmentation method is correct for each individual. Consultation and correct analysis is necessary to limit scarring and accomplish the desired effect. The most frequent incision is made underneath the breast, just a little away from the fold where the breast meets the chest. This way, if there is any scarring at all, it will not be readily visible. This method is known as an Infra-mammary augmentation.
One may also decide upon Periareolar augmentation. This method involves an creating an opening at the intersection of the areola, where the colored skin around the nipple meets the surrounding skin. This method of incision is usually a half circle, slightly less than half the distance in the region of the lower part of the areola.
Opting for Transaxillary or Axillary incision is another method. This method involves making the incision in the armpit or axilla. The difference between this method and others is that it does not require the use of an endoscope. An endoscope is a long, fine, lighted tube, which is used to aid with surgeries, including many types of breast implant surgeries.
There is also a fourth, less regularly used technique, which is through the belly button, known as umbilicus. This method is also called Transumbilical or Umbilical augmentation. This is the least common form of breast implant surgery
Breast augmentation surgery is not always entirely successful. Sometimes there can be a rupture or leak in the breast implant, resulting in corrective surgery. However, consulting with a reputed surgeon who has successfully performed many operations and talking with other women, who have already gone through the procedure, helps in assessing the risks and making the right decisions.
