Attention Deficit Disorder comes in a different avatar wherein the patient is overactive, fidgety, aggressive, highly emotive and sometimes lacking in social manners. This is easily observed to be in contrast to ADD patients who prefer to remain unheard of.
Both ADD and ADHD have the same symptoms such as quick distraction, forgetfulness, poor academic results, difficulty in finishing tasks, and so on. However, the distinguishing features for ADHD is the hyperactive state of the patient. Both ADD and ADHD have treatment options that are common. These include medications and professional assistance.
ADHD is a behavioral disorder that occurs in childhood. It poses a huge public health problem. ADHD children are unable to cope with new settings and have a tough time adjusting to new surroundings that tend to restrict their hyperactivity. They also experience adverse effects on career, academic performance, and social well being.
There are some differentiating factors between ADD and ADHD. The ADD patient is very obedient, shy, slow in doing things, keep to assigned territory, not very talkative, not interested in popularity or fame, has very small circle of friends who understand the problem, unable to make new relationship easily, and extremely polite.
The ADHD patient on the other hand displays the following characteristics. He/she is always running around, doing things that are not requested for, intrusive into other private conversations and living spaces, inattentive, rebellious when ordered to do something, irritated at the least provocation, bossy with close family members, egotistical, a party person who makes friends but does not intend keeping long-term relationships, and unable to conduct himself/herself with decorum in social gatherings and public places.
As with ADD, there is no single treatment option that is clinically proven to be successful. Medications have been opted for in these cases all these years. However, it is recommended to have a good blend of medication and behavioral therapy.
