An anniversary is a day that commemorates or celebrates a past event, especially one of personal importance that occurred on the same day of the year some time in the past. Birthday anniversaries and especially wedding anniversaries are the most awaited and celebrated personal events. While the birthday anniversary marks the day of the birth of an individual, the wedding anniversary is celebrated as a day when two people tied the knot and took wedding vows.
A wedding anniversary is often a big event for couples who celebrate the day by partying, spending time with each other and their families, gifting each other gifts and so on. The 25th anniversary is known as the silver jubilee anniversary, the 30th anniversary is known as pearl, the 35th as coral, the 40th as ruby, the 45th as sapphire, the 50th as gold, the 55th as emerald and the 60th as the diamond anniversary year. As the years pass, the stone representing the bond becomes more valuable.
Usually, if an anniversary party is thrown in the early years of marriage, the couple themselves host it. The parties to celebrate the later anniversaries such as the 25th anniversary onward are often hosted by the couple’s children. Sometimes these parties even come as a surprise element for the couple.
An anniversary is just a day to mark the completion of one phase of the love and bond and promises and expectations for the coming years to come. It holds importance because it symbolizes the growing commitment and love that couples hold for each other. As the years go by, every anniversary comes as a reminder of all the years that have gone by – with a hope to celebrate together all the anniversaries to come.
