Air Hockey is a sport played between two players trying to outscore each other by descending puck on opponent’s goal. This game is played on a special table called Air Hockey table. An air hockey table is commonly a platform with a very large and soft surface. In order to prevent puck and strikers from leaving air hockey table, rails are placed on its all sides. It also has a slot at both ends, which serves as a goal in which players attempt to sink a puck. A puck generally returns behind and below the goals.
Air hockey tables have a machine, which provides air on the surface of a table that generates air cushion. A puck then floats instead of lying flat on the hockey table. This mechanism lessens the friction on a play surface facilitating a very fast exchange of pucks and strikes that is one of the main excitements of this game. Hand-eye coordination is improved while playing on air hockey tables; it develops the ability of a player to think fast.
Air producing machinery can be replaced by smooth plastic platforms, in order to save some money. An air hockey player needs a striker and a puck. Strikers are plane surfaces that lie on table, which is connected to a handle. A puck is a thin plastic disc having thickness of about half an inch, and two inches in diameter.
In this game, two players stand at opposite ends of a table. One player hits a puck to the opposite end until the puck goes into an opponent’s goal, and a point is counted. The player who lost a point has to serve. Players have to earn 7 points in general, but many times, a time limit is set for a game, and the player, who has the most points when the time is up, wins a game. If both players have earned the same number of points when the time is up, the game is a draw.
